Matteo Pullicino’s most recent publication, Dal-ġisem ma nafx nafdahx [I don’t know if I trust this body] (Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, 2024) is an exploration of childhood anxieties festering in the summer months. The vignettes that make up this chapbook also form part of his first novel which he is currently working on.
His works have been featured in the anthologies Antoloġija 1 (Aphroconfuso, 2024) and Iż-Żmien Kurjuż taż-Żgħożija (Fondazzjoni HELA & Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, 2023). His poetry has also been exhibited at Spazju Kreattiv with his installation, “Mill-Korsija ta’ Ġisem Minxur [From the Stream of a Hanging Body],” as part of the Europride 2023 exhibition, The Wind Blows… Waves In All Directions.
Selected as one of Arts Council Malta’s artists to participate in Artivisti (2022-2023), Matteo developed and wrote Amir, a short screenplay inspired by the experiences of queer refugees in Malta.
Whether through poetry, prose or screenwriting, at the heart of Matteo’s work is his fascination with memory and time.
Matteo was born and raised in Malta, where he received a B.A. (Hons) in Maltese with English, and an M.A. in Film Studies at the University of Malta. Presently, he resides in Berlin.
